I wasn’t the worst player in the world but having 2 shots on a hole that was SI 1 was great at first, but to be honest after a while was a bit embarrassing.

I was a 19 handicap for ages and started to think about what if’s. What if I could hit it another 20 yards off the tee?

What if I could then afford to hit shorter irons into the green with more accuracy?

What if I was then left with shorter putts?

Then my score would come down – naturally! However, I found it wasn’t that simple. I tried all sorts of golf balls, from the high end Tour types to the well established Top Flight and Pinnacle ranges all with varying degrees of success.

Some days I could smash my drive down the middle with a Pinnacle yet other days the flag seemed miles away. Then to make matters worse, I could play Titleist, a so called soft outer ball made for spin, yet hit it the same distance as Top Flight or Pinnacle.

None of it was making any sense and was starting to ruin a normally decent game of golf.
