Because this is my uncensored story of how I changed my golf game by firstly looking for the longest golf ball out there and then putting into action what I discovered, that turned out to be the one thing helped me achieve my goal of taking 3 shots off my game in 4 months – and no, I’m not kidding!
Go back 5 months and imagine the scene…..
Blue sky, still, late spring, the trees full of fresh new green leaves, the fairway looking immaculate and I’m out of the office (the best bit!)
You know the sort of day, the type of day that makes you feel glad to be alive and what’s more – glad to be a golfer.
I was on the 17th tee and was leading by one shot at my local course and all I needed was a nice drive right down the middle, the fairway has a slight slope downhill so it’s not like you have to take the cover off the golf ball, in fact you can afford to be conservative, but what happens?
Yes, you know and I know because we all been there, not only been there, but we go there often – I started to think. What if?
What if I can just hit it 20 yards further? I’ll be taking a pitching wedge to the green, which will be more accurate, I’ll have a shorter put and the rest of the guys are going to do something incredible to beat me, which they won’t and the first win of the season is mine!

So what did I do? I hit it as hard as I could and went out of bounds on right, was playing 3 off the tee which I scuffed and ended up with an 8, I felt sick, it was so frustrating, all the work of the holes earlier gone, in one stupid moment – why? Why had I lost it like that? It wasn’t exactly the Ryder Cup, playing more for pride than anything – you know what it’s like playing golf with your mates, they’re going to rib me for the rest of the day in club house, what was I thinking?
And that, my friend, is the trouble with us golfers, changing our minds at the last minute, which ends up costing us.
This is what started me thinking about the longest golf ball.
Forget, Titleist Pro V’s, Callaway HX Tour’s why don’t I just get the longest ball out there, my drives will go further etc etc without me having to do anything.
And believe me I tried them all, I’ve been through everything, everything that you think is meant to be a long ball. Srixon, Top Flite, Pinnacle – loads of them, tried them all.
– So let me save you a whole heap of bother and effort and still take shots off your game.
I was getting pretty fed up, couldn’t seem to find out what the answer was, if indeed there is one, then really quite by accident I had something recommended to me. Now, I’m not say it’ll work for everyone, a couple of swing triggers didn’t work for me, but this took 3 shots off my game and I was a 19 handicapper to start with so not too bad, but I now play off 16, verging on15.
And the best bit – It doesn’t matter what ball I play with!! ‘Long’, ‘Short’, they’re all the same which means you can play with whatever you feel comfortable with (at the moment it’s the Callaway iX Tour for me).
